February 25, 2020 – Los Angeles, CA – The United Premier Soccer League (UPSL) is pleased to announce Modesto City FC as its newest member.

Based in Modesto, CA, Modesto City FC will begin UPSL play in the 2020 Spring Season as part of the Western Conference Wild West Blue Division. The club will host its UPSL home games at Mary Grogan Community Park (3601 Litt Road, Modesto, CA 95357) in compliance with UPSL National Division standards.

United United Premier Soccer League Wild West Conference Manager Will Bumgardner said, "I am excited to see the Wild West Division expand further in to the Central Valley. Modesto City FC is a terrific club and a welcome addition to the UPSL. We wish them the best of luck as they get set to kick off this season."

Modesto City FC was created in 2019 and has played the last two seasons in Liga NorCal (USASA). Currently sixth overall, Modesto City FC plays its Liga NorCal Match Week 20 game this weekend. The club will now compete concurrently in the UPSL.

Christian Copland is Owner and General Manager of Modesto City FC. A native of El Salvador, Copland played in the Club Deportivo FAS academy from 1998-'03.

"We decided to play in the UPSL as it was a step up from the level of competition in La Liga NorCal and we want to push ourselves further. The 2020 Spring Season was the right time because we wanted to get started as soon as possible in order to grow soccer here in the Central Valley. We want to offer young players an alternative to what is out there right now in the Modesto area, and give other players a chance to continue playing after high school and get seen by higher-level coaches. The UPSL is the best choice in order to make that happen," Copland said.

Juan Sierra will serve as Head Coach for Modesto City FC. A native of Mexico, Sierra's previous coaching stops include a six-year stint as Manager at Inter Playa del Carmen in Mexico's professional 2nd and 3rd divisions from 2008-'13.

The club will soon announce its upcoming game schedule.

The UPSL was formed in 2011 and currently includes more than 300 teams nationwide. The UPSL is the largest Pro Development League in North America. Each UPSL team is individually owned and operated, and is responsible for maintaining UPSL National League minimum standards.

UPSL teams are eligible to participate in the U.S. Open Cup Qualifying Rounds through the league's affiliation with the U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) and the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA).
